ABOUT US

CEN'S VISION

CEN's vision towards the future of all Nepalese children is in advance to:

  • Overall higher child literacy and education standards throughout the Nepal;
  • Proper health care and nutrition for all of the children;
  • Equal opportunity for a better future to every child;
  • Children and family self-sustainability, and independence through awareness and development

CEN’S OBJECTIVES

Having recently been established, CEN is only at the start-up stage of our long-term projects. Listed below are the main long-term objectives of us:

  • Create an opportunity through providing an education for every child orphaned in circumstances of war and political violence - and in the long term, supporting any child from disadvantaged background;
  • Improve standards of health of every child and families from economically disadvantaged remote villages in Nepal;
  • Generate public awareness and defend children's rights;
  • Facilitate relations with donor organisations and launch appropriate new development programs.

CEN HISTORY

Child Environment Nepal is a not-for-profit and Non-Government Organisation (NGO) established in 2002. It is a legal entity registered in the District Administration Office in Kathmandu under the Organisation Administration Act of 1977 (CDO registration #190 – 2002/03), and is also affiliated with the Social Welfare Council (affiliation #14131).

CEN came into being in reaction to the changing political situation in Nepal . Violent incidents and internal conflict are terrorizing already marginalized populations in Nepal 's western region, often leaving children from poverty stricken homes orphaned and homeless. CEN has set up an orphanage for emergency aid to victims, and of course the first priority is the immediate need for food and shelter. But it is well known that 'band aid' emergency relief is not enough for breaking out of the poverty cycle.

CEN is committed to fostering ongoing education, nutrition and health care that will make a real difference towards a promising future for these children. Healthy children, unburdened by poverty at home, have a better focus for learning and can make the most of their opportunities. Through education, children can play an active role in shaping their own lives, contribute to their community and promote changes to benefit their country.

As a newly founded charity, we currently rely mainly on donations from committee members, generous individual donors and the contributions of Himalayan Glacier trekking agency in Thamel, Kathmandu, and Spirit Adventures, Melbourne , Australia . This is, however, not a sustainable situation, especially given that the youngest of the children is only four years old, and we aim to support all children until they have reached adulthood.

In addition, all our future projects will require continuous financial support.
