The children’s care home is currently housed in rented premises just outside Kathmandu in a more rural area. The home consists of 6 rooms: two bed rooms for the children and carers, a study/office, a kitchen, a play room, and a guest room for our volunteers. The home is situated next to the privately-run primary school, and the children can play safely in the area around the house. Planned Improvements A number of immediate improvements are being planned at the moment: -
the kitchen will be enhanced by installing a bench and some cooking equipment. Feeding 13 children is a big job! -
the children’s beds and mattresses require upgrading; and -
solar heating will be installed to provide the children with hot water for showers, since Kathmandu temperatures can drop significantly in winter. In the long term CEN is planning to purchase a block of land, hopefully by the end of 2006. We will either build a new children’s care home, or buy land with an existing building. In this way we can take care for more children in future if required. |
