Fundraishing

In order to finance your stay abroad you can make use of fundraising. If you have not fundraised yet we would like to provide you with some ideas which can help you in collecting funds.

First of all you should share your plan about volunteering abroad with your family, relatives and friends. We are sure that they will appreciate your honourable plan by small donations. If you feel yourself not convenient in asking people for money, you can do small works for them in return , e.g. washing the car of your father, helping your grandmother in the garden or iron the clothes of your aunt.

Furthermore you should think about any special talents of you or your friends. If you are good in singing you could organise a small concert in your garden or at an event in the village. If you have friends which are good at drawing you can ask them to provide some of their artworks which you can sell further to friends or the community. You can also just simply clean out your closet and sell the unneeded things in a garage sale or at the local flea market. Some further ideas for fundraising would be as follows:

- E-Bay Sales

We are sure you have some things you do not necessarily need anymore, e.g. old shoes, clothes which are too tight or toys of your childhood. Try to sell them via E-Bay. You will see that also small amounts will soon add up.

- Sponsored run

Participate in a marathon or half-marathon or any other run and search for a sponsor who donates a certain amount for each kilometre you run, e.g. USD 5 per kilometre would make for a half-marathon of 21 km USD 105 in total.

- Sales of self-made cakes

Sell self-made cakes or cookies, either in your neighbourhood, in front of schools or in the company of your father.

- Ask for donations of local charity groups or other associations

There might be charity or religious organisations in your community which support community members who want to do some volunteering work.

- Ask for the help of schools - provide presentations in exchange

School children in your country might be eager to help children in Nepal. The school could organise a certain event with your help and the money raised at the event can be added to your budget. In exchange you make a presentation about your stay in Nepal.

- Private tutoring

If you have good skills in a special area you can teach others for a fee. If you speak German, give German lessons. If you are good at maths give math lessons. Usually there is always such demand available, even in your closer environment.

- Ask for cash gifts for your birthday and Christmas

Inform your family and friends in advance about your plan and ask them to make you instead of a material present a cash gift.

- Organise a raffle

Local companies may provide you with the prices for the raffle.

You see that there are several ways how you could possibly raise funds. Just do not be shy and involve all the people you know. You are doing this not for your own enrichment but in order to support poor and needy people. A lot of people want to help but do not know how to contribute in an effective manner. By providing money to you they see that their contributions are going to a good cause.
