| FUTURE
PROJECTS
CEN has been running the children’s care home for more than
a year. We are committed to provide care for the children
at least until they all have completed their secondary education.
In addition, CEN is planning a number of new projects in order
to achieve its broader objectives targeted mainly towards
children from poorer, remote villages of Nepal.
EDUCATION
Schooling
We are planning on strengthening our relationship with the
local school where the children receive their education (Bal
Udsyan School, Manamayaju). The school is privately run, and
most students' parents pay a monthly fee. Most children come
from the area around the school, and their parents are generally
farmers, labourers, shop keepers and the like. Some children
receive scholarships, which means they receive education for
free. The school only uses books and is in need of practical
educational material, including library books, equipment for
science, games, library books, and some computers. CEN is
committed to contribute either funds or (second-hand) educational
materials to this school.
In addition we plan to support the local schools in Jogimara
and other rural areas.
Literacy Classes
Although the literacy rate of children (and adults) in Nepal
has substantially risen over time, access to quality education
is still unavailable to many people in rural areas.
CEN has planned to provide non-formal educational programmes to children
in Jogimara village through basic literacy classes and different
functional training activities, is particular to girls and
children between five and 15, by facilitating resources, administration
and venues. The aim is to educate through local teachers only.
English Classes
For the children’s future prosperity learning English
at an early age will open many doors for them later on in
their life, especially in international business and tourism. The
children in the orphanage learn English as part of the normal
Nepalese school curriculum; however it is our belief that
this program can be complemented by a more targeted course,
and of course a lot of informal practice with our volunteers!
Scholarships
It is CEN’s intention to set money aside for the children
currently cared for by the orphanage to ensure their further
education. This could be for the apprenticeships, trade school
or university studies. CEN believes that each child has a
unique set of skills and interests, and it is our aim to provide
the children with every opportunity to create a fulfiling
future for themselves.
