| FUTURE
PROJECTS
CEN has been running the children’s care home for more than
a year. We are committed to provide care for the children
at least until they all have completed their secondary education.
In addition, CEN is planning a number of new projects in order
to achieve its broader objectives targeted mainly towards
children from poorer, remote villages of Nepal.
HEALTH CARE
Currently, health care is not accessible to a large portion
of the rural population in Nepal due to a number of factors
such as remoteness and unawareness of health issues. For example,
infant mortality rates are 91 per 1,000 children, which is
amongst the highest in the world.
Child Health Care
CEN is planning to establish a health care centre, possibly
in Jogimara, focusing on maternal and child health care. It
will be managed and staffed by local doctors, nurses and para-medical
staff, with perhaps in future support from foreign volunteers.
The target group will be children between the ages of one
and five, since infant mortality in Nepal is the highest at
these ages, as well as their mothers.
Nutrition
Through the child health care centre, CEN aims to provide
information and ongoing education on healthy diets for both
mother and child, in particular through local nurses and volunteers.
We also want to make available nutritional supplements to
families to ensure a balanced intake of nutrients.
Hygiene
Through the child health care centre, CEN aims to provide
information and ongoing education on family hygiene and sanitation
to families, in particular through local nurses and volunteers.
The target audience is in the first instance again women,
as they are the conduit for making lasting changes to family
health.
Awareness Campaigns
CEN plans to manage ad hoc awareness campaigns where required,
for example in order to prevent outbreaks of certain diseases,
or to promote vaccinations. Again, these will be run by the
centre.
